Blue Planet plastics recycling Ltd. is the leading Vancouver BC center for recycling post-industrial scrap resins and the top source for sanitized, recycled plastic pellets ready for all industrial needs. With same-day pick up and delivery in Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey, Burnaby and Calgary, Blue Planet makes it easier than ever before to recycle unneeded plastic products and receive clean, repurposed polymer pellets suitable for a variety of industrial uses.
Better still, Blue Planet pays for all types of bulk waste polymers, providing added value to our customers' bottom line. It does pay to recycle, not only financially but also in terms of preserving natural resources. The real pay-off in recycling is a reduction in the environmental toll that using convenient, durable and lightweight products brings to bear on planet Earth.
For many years, curbside pickup services accepted only specific plastic containers for repurposing, as indicated by the code on each piece. High-density polyethylene, coded as HDPE-2, most commonly used as milk jugs, was one these. Due to the wide variety of polymer types, setting limits on municipal waste recycling was one way to simplify the process for consumers, while sending the most commonly-used Recyclables for reprocessing.
In comparison to metal or glass containers which are commonly accepted in curbside collection bins, polymer products have historically posed unique reprocessing challenges. Each kind of resin has its own chemical structure, composed of molecules so large that heat alone cannot dissolve them into mixable substances. This is why different types of resins require sorting and separate reprocessing; they do not mix with other resins that are not chemically identical. In addition, depending on the type of polymer, the material may not be recyclable more than once.
Usually, polymer reprocessing does not remove any dyes or coloring during the recycling process because this additional step can potentially weaken the molecular makeup of the resin. Blue Planet can separate differently coloured particles, however, according to customer specifications.
Blue Planet has the ability to reprocess many types of reclaimed resin products, including polystyrene, also called Styrofoam. Restaurants, grocery stores, the shipping industry and electronics manufacturers utilize a vast amount of Styrofoam packaging that is energy-intensive to manufacture and does not readily break down in landfills. Burning polystyrene emits poisonous gas. Repurposing Styrofoam for further use is the best way to slow the manufacture of this non-environmentally-friendly resin.
The scope of resins that Blue Planet commonly reprocesses includes a wide variety of bulk industrial scrap plastics, including:
We make sure to equip our modern facilities with the latest technology in resin product reclamation, giving us the unique ability to process such items as window frames, siding, barrels, pipe, and all types of recyclable scrap plastics into pellets of various sizes that can be quickly and easily reformed into new products for industrial and home use.
While Blue Planet's facilities are located in Langley BC, we offer same-day pick-up and delivery in surrounding areas, including Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, and Surrey. We have recently added Calgary to our BC service area.
Repurposing industrial scrap waste polymers begins when our technicians feed the sorted materials into our grinding machines. Sanitizing, de-dusting and and filtering ensure superior results. We can customize the size of the reprocessed resin particles according to our client's specifications. Pellets of various sizes emerge from the grinding process for collection and packaging, ready for delivery and reforming.
Blue Planet is committed to serving local markets with sales and delivery of clean, pulverized resins for remanufacture. We are proactive in finding regional buyers for our products and support the North American manufacturing industry. We provide seamless, same-day service for recycling Burnaby, recycling Vancouver, recycling Surrey, and surrounding areas.
The Impact of Resins Reuse on the Blue Planet
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), plastics comprise 12 percent of municipal solid waste, with containers and packaging making up the largest part of that percentage. Durable polymer-based goods, such as building materials, appliances and furnishings contribute to the solid waste stream, as do non-durable items such as disposable beverage cups and diapers.
As of 2009, the overall reclamation rate reported by EPA was only seven percent of all waste resins. However, within that umbrella, 29 percent of all HDPE bottles and 28 percent of all PET (polyethylene terephthalate), both used for beverage packaging, underwent reprocessing. A mere 12 percent of Styrofoam scrap made its way to a reprocessing center, and a scant nine percent of polymer bags and wraps were reclaimed for reuse.
Blue Planet intends to be instrumental in improving the planet's reuse record, with responsive pick-up services for recycling Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby and Calgary BC, and the technology to bring about positive change. We offer a waste audit service to our industrial customers, consisting of an on-site evaluation and recommendations for developing responsible and value-added resin reprocessing programs.
Repurposing materials to save the economic and environmental costs of manufacture is not a strictly industrial enterprise. Without the support of individual consumers, reusing, reducing and repurposing would not be possible. Such simple measures as encouraging children to make the most of products and packaging at home and school can educate children about the critical importance of closing the cycle of consumerism for the benefit of future generations. Parents and teachers can get children involved in sorting materials for reprocessing as well.
By investing in responsible reusage practices, BC residents can help improve the total impact of recycling Surrey, recycling Burnaby, and reuse of Recyclables throughout the province. By separating polymers according to the resin identification code stamped on most product packaging, and then apportioning waste materials to the curbside bin or local transfer facility for transport to reprocessing centers such as Blue Planet, Canadians can greatly improve the rate of reuse while reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the manufacture of new polymers.
Individuals can further support repurposing of polymer products by judicious purchasing of items that are made from repurposed materials. As the critical need for reusing rather than discarding recyclable items becomes more clear, people have found ever more creative ways to reuse materials. Leading clothing manufacturers are making fleece garments from reprocessed beverage bottles. Retailers are selling lawn chairs and garden edging made from pulverized milk jugs. By buying such items rather than those made from newly manufactured resins, consumers can join Blue Planet in turning the tide of the solid waste stream toward a healthier, sustainable future.
