lue Planet plastic recycling offers a full range of services for the 7 different types of commercially available plastic. Unlike traditional waste recycling, plastic recycling requires specific techniques to mitigate the impact of toxic chemicals. Our facilities are designed to process massive quantities of these plastics by grinding up the material and then pelletizing it. In addition to our pelletizing service, we also can separate out resins or remove foreign material from specific resins. We can also pulverize material or separate out colors.

Our expertise and dedication makes us the premier choice for recycling Vancouver's industrial plastic waste. We are pleased to be able to offer our pick-up and delivery services in the areas of Surrey, Burnaby, Langley, Richmond, and the rest of the lower mainland of BC. Blue Planet Recycling is proud to announce that we are now serving the Calgary area as well.

For our recycling Richmond, recycling Langley, recycling Surrey, recycling Burnaby and recycling Vancouver customers, we are able to offer a comprehensive on-site audit of their current facilities and suggest an appropriate industrial plastic scrap-recycling plan.

Our customers benefit in two ways. Not only are they able to fully clear out their waste bins, but they also receive a financial bonus. In addition to selling reclaimed recycled plastic resins, we purchase recyclable plastics from our customers and process them for resale to make new products. We believe that recycling is not only good for the planet, but also great for business.

Recycling Plastics At Home

As the industrial era has gradually given way to the information age, a larger number of people are beginning to understand that their actions directly affect their surrounding environment. Creating a new material from scratch is inherently more difficult and costly than re-using a previously made material. Consider this scenario: if you had to buy a new car each time you needed to take a drive, you would quickly drain your bank account. By reusing our materials, we ultimately save money and time. More importantly, we stop creating harmful and unnecessary by-products.

Whether you are a recycling Richmond, recycling Langley, recycling Surrey or recycling Burnaby customer, separating out your plastics from your conventional garbage is the first step in a healthy waste processing routine.

Learning to re-use materials and separate out plastics from ordinary garbage may sound difficult, but it becomes easy once you have developed a regular routine. By creating a regular household waste management process, the impact on the environment is considerably lessened, leading to a much healthier and cleaner planet.

Each type of plastic is identifiable by its resin number. This number, which ranges from 1 to 7, is usually stamped on the bottom of the plastic item inside of the three-arrow recycling symbol. For residential recycling Burnaby and recycling Vancouver customers, their curbside recycling services will automatically recycle Types 1, 2, 4, and 5.

Some areas have a recycler that will accept all 7 types of plastic. In each case, residents and business owners should first check what plastic types can be recycled by their curbside service. We have provided a comprehensive guide below to what plastics are traditionally recyclable by curbside programs, and which types require specialized processing services such as those provided by Blue Planet.

Regardless of which plastics are accepted by conventional recycling programs, at home you should rinse all used plastic items and then place them in a separate bin so they may be sorted later by type. Throwing away plastics in the regular garbage is not beneficial in the long run. Waste processors must sort garbage before bringing it to a landfill. Items that do not biodegrade naturally ultimately take up space and contribute to a less hospitable environment.

Types of Recyclable Plastics

While all plastics are technically recyclable, some types are far easier to recycle than others. Here is a brief guide to those plastics that are frequently accepted by curbside services.

Type 1: PETE
This type of plastic consists of polyethylene terephtalate, and is used primarily to create safe plastic drinking containers for popular brands of soda and portable water. This plastic is relatively easy to recycle, as it does not contain particularly dangerous chemicals. Most conventional curbside programs accept Type 1.

Type 2: HDPE
This type of plastic is made of high-density polyethylene, and is usually opaque. It is generally used for juice bottles, detergent bottles, and milk containers. Much like Type 1 plastic, Type 2 is also considered to be safe, and is accepted by most curbside programs.

Type 4: LDPE
This type of plastic is made of low-density polyethylene. Traditionally, it is used in the production of bread bags, grocery bags, and bottles that can be squeezed. A conventional recycler will be able to process Type 4 plastics.

Type 5: PP
This type of plastic is made of polypropylene. Straws, cloudy water bottles, medicine bottles, and ketchup and syrup containers are among the most common consumer uses for polypropylene. As a result, curbside programs frequently accept consumer-sized Type 5 plastic. In industrial sites, this type of plastic is frequently used for large containers or flexible lids for metal containers. Before we grind and pelletize the plastics, we cut the plastics into more manageable pieces. Our recycling Surrey, recycling Langley and recycling Richmond customers can easily dispose of enormous industrial plastics in this fashion.

What Types of Plastics You Can't Recycle

The following plastics are generally not recyclable by most curb side services. Luckily, Blue Planet is able to process each type of plastic with our specialized techniques. For industrial recycling Richmond, industrial recycling Vancouver, industrial recycling Langley, industrial recycling Surrey and industrial recycling Burnaby customers, we are able to process each of these types without special notice.

Type 3: V
This type of plastic is made of polyvinyl chloride. Frequently known as a type of piping used for plumbing, PVC is also used to create food wrap. PVC can be toxic if ingested. Many conventional recyclers do not accept Type 3. As an industrial scrap recycler, we have developed a safe process that allows us to pelletize the Type 3 plastic in a variety of forms, including window frames.

Type 6: PS
This type of plastic is made of Styrofoam, also known by its more technical name "polystyrene." While many people are able to recognize Styrofoam on sight, it is also used to create many disposable household items, such as cups and plates. Many recyclers do not handle this material because of its toxicity. Luckily, Styrofoam is particularly easy to pelletize, due to its lightweight nature. All of our industrial recycling Vancouver and recycling Surrey customers will be pleased to be able to safely dispose of their Styrofoam material. Our residential recycling Langley, recycling Burnaby and recycling Richmond customers will appreciate how easy it is to recycle any Styrofoam inserts they may be inadvertently keeping because their recycling program does not accept Type 6.

Type 7: OTHER
Much as the name implies, Type 7 encompasses a variety of different plastics, especially those created after 1987. This includes plastic that uses the toxic chemical BPA, as well as polycarbonate products such as CD's, iPods, medical devices, and sports equipment. The toxins from Type 7 have traditionally made it unpopular among conventional waste recycling programs.

How Recycling Impacts the Planet

Creating brand new materials, especially plastics, involves time, energy, and a variety of production resources that frequently become waste products. Water, oil, paper, ink, and other seemingly non-related materials go into the production of new plastics. These materials generally can't be reused, and frequently create waste products of their own. Plastic recycling therefore not only helps re-use plastic, but it also helps reduce the amount of non-reusable production materials and associated waste involved in the creation of new plastic or other recyclable materials.

The planet is currently deluged with non-recycled materials that take up space and leach toxic chemicals into the environment. Styrofoam, also known as plastic Type 6, takes literally 500 years to dissolve on its own. If it is burned or processed incorrectly, it can create health problems and pollute agricultural growing lands. In some cases, plastics interfere with the breeding and feeding habits of wildlife, causing unnecessary death and illness.

This is why waste recycling has become such an important endeavour. Waste recycling encompasses a broad range of products, from plastic recycling to paper recycling to glass recycling. Waste recycling has become more refined as each recycler learns how to safely break down materials and re-use them. Being a recycler requires understanding how to separate out harmful toxins from the underlying core re-usable material, and how to keep those harmful toxins from seeping into the groundwater or polluting the environment.

As more people actively recycle, the need for landfills, new mines, deforestation and other resource-heavy activities diminishes. A reduction in each of these activities benefits the earth enormously. By re-using paper, people help themselves. Consider this: when trees are cut down en masse, the loose soil left behind can quickly turn into a torrent of mud in a rainstorm, leading to catastrophic landslides. Re-use is in many ways the best preventative strategy.
